"Our environment will change, it always does, but if environmentalists are blind to a major part of the system they live in; a corporate culture, its economy, and its power structure, they will forever antagonize decision makers. As well, for the decision-makers of our culture to foolishly discount awareness that will certainly shape their markets is more than fear, ego, and greed. It is, for our species, a collective misunderstanding of our environment and the magnificent impact we humans, and others, have on this planet--and that sometimes we truly do need to make dramatic mid-course corrections."

Daniel Gottlieb is an environmental philosopher. He seeks the questions that wait behind our answers. From his birthplace of Brooklyn, Daniel grew up in metropolitan New York near Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, part of Columbia University. For various reasons, Daniel spent some part of almost every weekend, through high school, on campus, wandering around the Departments. It was at Lamont that Daniel saw ocean sediment drilling cores. An experience that led him to immediately comprehend the meaning of the Vostok ice cores.

The only time he did not spend his weekends at Lamont was during his summer vacations in the mountains of New Hampshire reading the works of Loren Eiseley, Aldo Leopold and John Muir--perhaps adding to his philosophical nature at an early age. Innately inquisitive seventeen-year-old Daniel sought a solo adventure in Europe, only to return to Europe to work, before graduating from Skidmore College in the seventies.

Through the years, passionate about his writing, Daniel worked for Hewlett Packard, Lockheed, and for IntelliCorp–one of the early pioneers in AI-in the phenomenon called Silicon Valley. His colleagues being the utility industry, and various R&D facilities, Daniel became a specialist in the use, and explanation, of artificial intelligence software in advanced manufacturing environments. It was in that capacity that Daniel became acquainted in modeling complex systems.

On the subject of complex, non-deterministic models, Daniel states: "...That we have discovered tragedy in progress is not an indication of criminality or of malicious intent. It is an indication we have advanced in our awareness. But, on the other hand, if we seek to hide this awareness for the purpose of commerce, individual safety, or power, there is a crime. By this activity, we lose that reason for our place on this planet: our humanity."

Daniel wrote The GALILEO Syndrome because he knew the debate on climate change had no winners. He also knew that undercutting the science of coming events would forestall the political will to address the climate crisis. As a result Daniel sought an avenue to bring forward the issues without entering into a debate and soon followed with four more books about the coming climate regime.

Fulfilling his passion of environmental philosophy, Daniel is currently involved in environmental consultation on the community, corporate and international levels and he works to expand our notion of environment by fostering a broader awareness of climate change Short Form Videos through his new ventures Canopy Studios - Japan and Canopy Japan LLC.

On the topic of greenwashing our lack of response to the GHG buildup in the atmosphere, Daniel has written: "I cannot excuse inactivity on climate change when the chances are so high our progeny will suffer from a rabid environment. The trend, to me, seems clear: Larger, more active weather systems are damaging lives, infrastructure, homes and hobbling civilization at an increased tempo. Feel the climate changing and our deep ties to that change. The planet, and our children, demand our attention to the climate crisis. The battle isn’t too large to win. So long as we face it without blinking."
