Battling the Real Dragon of Climate Change:

Political Will

"This planetary-wide event which we call global climate change is an overhaul of the climate system due to human forcing, which coincides with a 100,000 year glacial cycle. The human species' ability to react to the changing climate is curtailed by a lack of courage on the part of our leaders and a shortage of political will on the part of the population to force our policy makers forward. This truth is without blame. We have, as yet, not put forth the societal mandate to address global climate change--and tackling global warming in America without a mandate would be Quixotic--political suicide,” comments D.H. Gottlieb.

D.H. Gottlieb, author and environmental philosopher sees the problem not as monster hurricanes, sea level rise, or F5 tornadoes sweeping the land; he has made peace with those horrors. Instead he focuses on the environment and humanity's response: our political will, or lack of same, in addressing global climate change.

Think about it: The costs will be enormous--for damage as well as mitigation--the approach of the changes far faster than we would wish. The adjustment to our society, stunning. The data, to those just getting into the intricacy of the problem, overwhelming, and the fear factor as well as the potential for panic: enormous. Is it any wonder politically savvy leaders might shy from the hard questions and their unpopular answers?
This gentle man's passion encourages others to connect with their changing environment via his written word. Once a connection takes place in the reader, the issue we call global climate change becomes more than just the chaotic weather of an energized climate. It reveals itself as our path--the path of an advancing civilization.
In D.H. Gottlieb's epic novel: "The GALILEO Syndrome" we see the results of waiting too long to address global climate change. Storms, chaos, and sea level rise defines a merciless climate that batters humanity and withers society. Survival overtakes the social contract. This brilliant work defines a path to a more conductive
awareness of the "self" and the environment.
Attending to Global Climate Change now is paramount. A lack of political will--that's our dragon. Societal fears concern D.H. Gottlieb more than the terrifying weather events. For this extraordinary man, and maybe for you as well, looking around and watching the interaction between humanity and climate yields awareness. "Who knows, perhaps Gaia sought our help to keep the planet warm despite the glacial cycle--and all we have to do is adjust. And perhaps that is Gaia's gift back to us," D.H. Gottlieb says with a grin.
